Gluten-free Adventures in Mexico

For last year’s March Break vacation, we decided to go to Mexico. We booked an all-inclusive holiday with Sunwing Vacations. The resort we chose was the Grand Sunset Princess All Suites and Spa Resort in Playa del Carmen on the Mayan Riviera. Part of the reason we selected this resort was because we read some good reviews about their gluten-free options on travel sites such as Trip Advisor Canada . Getting there We flew on Sunwing airlines and were disappointed with the gluten-free snack offerings on board. While there were some limited GF options, they ran out quickly, so there wasn’t a lot for my son to eat. Luckily it wasn’t a very long flight, so it wasn’t a huge issue, but something to note if you have a child with celiac disease who you know will need to eat on the flight. During the flight, you could read about the different excursions available from Sunwing Experiences and even purchase the tours from the flight attendants! We decided to book a half-day excursion

GF Adventures at Universal Orlando

For our first trip of 2018, we visited Universal Orlando .   I have to be honest and tell you that I booked this trip for me.   I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan and was dying to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.   Luckily my son is a big fan too, my daughter is a fan of resorts in general and my husband is generally happy to go anywhere as a family, so I didn’t feel too selfish in my choice of vacation destination! Cabana Bay Beach Resort We stayed on-site at Cabana Bay , a fun and colourful 50s/60s themed family resort - complete with bowling ally and 2 retro-themed pools.   The great thing about staying at Cabana Bay is that you get early admission to one of the 3 theme parks (it seemed like it rotated each week) and it’s adjacent to one of them -   the Volcano Bay water park.   Cabana Bay Beach Resort When we arrived at Cabana Bay on the first evening, it was pretty late, so we went to the Galaxy Bowl Restaurant and Bowling Ally for a quick bite.   This restau

Gluten-free PEI Adventure with Kids

When we vacationed in Prince Edward Island (“PEI”) in 2015, it was not my first time visiting, but it was my first time going with children - and definitely the first time that I had to be concerned about gluten-free options. We stayed at The Gables of PEI Resort on the recommendation of one of my family members who had been there before.   The Gables is located in Cavendish in the heart of PEI and we could conveniently drive to all the sites we wanted to see. The Gables offers self-contained villas with all the amenities of home - and then some.   It was nice to have a fully-equipped kitchen and an on-site BBQ where we could prep our own meals if we so desired.   We drove from our home-province of Ontario to PEI, so packing a cooler with some food and snacks for ourselves and the kids was a must.   We made sure to pack some gluten-free buns in addition to other non-perishable snacks and drinks.   We packed them frozen and by the time we needed them at one of the rest-stop
